For (t)HERE I printed Zondagsrust as a newspaper, not framed, not behind glass.
A woman mows her lawn. Behind her, the sky is on fire. What looks like a setting sun is the afterglow of an explosion; what looks like an ordinary weekend is a world tipping over.
Zondagsrust is the fourth series in (t)HERE, made entirely with generative AI. It is about a paradox in our psyche: while the catastrophe unfolds in the background, we cling to the domestic. We set the table, trim the hedge, mow the grass. Not out of indifference, but out of something like a survival instinct, whether it concerns the great stories in the world or the personal setbacks we meet along the way.
I chose to print the thirteen images as a newspaper. Paper that creases, yellows, gets thrown away, the opposite of the archival print. An image generated by a machine, handed back to the most disposable medium we have. The fragility felt true to the work.
Thirteen images, shown for the first time at my studio in Oosterbeek, as part of Kunstroute Renkum.
