Curator, not creator

Every morning, before the world is properly awake, I walk through the woods of Oosterbeek.

Since moving here, that walk has become a fixed ritual. My series Toeven grew out of it: landscapes with the atmosphere of the Veluwe, without depicting any specific place. Made entirely with generative AI, printed on Japanese paper.

Japanese print-making has a tradition of leaving out. To work against the AI in that tradition means: less is more. Selection becomes more important than generation. In this series I am a curator rather than a creator.

The Japanese paper carries the same philosophy. Soft, absorbent, no gloss. It softens the digital origin and gives an organic feeling that resonates with the walks.

Forest, paths, morning mist, light through branches. The Veluwe asks to be looked at carefully. Toeven respects that silence.
