After years of combining the work of cameraman with still photography, my recent debut purely as a set photographer felt like a real relief.
Though it was a new role, it felt like coming home, thanks to my deep knowledge of how a film set works. The art of still photography on a set asks for subtlety and timing. My experience lets me move unobtrusively, so I can capture most of the images during rehearsals or lens changes, without disturbing the production.
The result is authentic images that speak,and that often find their way to thumbnails, film posters, newspapers and marketing campaigns. Before anyone clicks on a moving image, their attention first has to be caught by a still image that makes an impact.
I hope to take on this role more often in the future, and to work with talented teams telling the stories worth sharing.
