An unlimited backstage pass

I have an unlimited backstage pass. That may be the finest thing about my work: every day I step into a new world.

As a photographer I don't only want to record. I want you to feel, in the photographs, who you are, your drive, your passion. Recently I photographed for the websites of two completely different entrepreneurs, both artists in their own way.

With art and antiques appraiser Patrick van Karsen it was a treasure hunt. The concentration, the value of the objects, the sense that like a detective he might stumble on a hidden find at any moment,my task was to make that tension and focus visible. That same week I stood in Petri Barten's yoga school. The calm there put me at ease at once. Where Patrick holds art in his hands, here I saw the art and the stories tattooed on the skin of the teachers.

However different the energy, the basis is always the same on any film or photo shoot: making sure everyone is at ease. At the yoga school we began with a music session. The camera disappeared into the background and what remained was the real, relaxed atmosphere.

Whether I work on a documentary for months or come to photograph for an afternoon, curiosity is my engine. I want to understand what moves you.
