Catherine van Campen's portrait of the Kooijman car dealership, a family business trying to stay afloat during the recession. Two brothers, two ways of working. Nominated for a Golden Calf at the Nederlands Film Festival and for Best Dutch Documentary, 2015.
The two brothers asked for two different cameras. For the one caught in performance reviews and talk of customer experience, I kept the frame rigid and cold, so he seems to flounder inside it. For the one who deals with wrecked cars and the people around them, the camera is warmer and closer. The contrast between the showroom and the workshop became the film's question about what we pay for status.
